MI Mix 2s finally goes official with Snapdragon 845

1 Mins read

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S was unveiled this afternoon in Shanghai (early morning in the U.S.) and it is obvious that Xiaomi used the Apple iPhone X as a stalking horse. Several times during the event, Xiaomi compared its new muscle phone to Apple’s tenth anniversary handset. Of course, Xiaomi says that the Mi Mix 2S takes better pictures, runs longer on a single charge, and gives video game players a better experience than the iPhone X.

The Mi Mix 2S stole the show, an upgrade on the Mix 2 that will be available to pre-order in China from 6pm today and on sale 3 April. The top-end model with 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, global bands and a free wireless charger (also new, retailing at 99 RMB or £11) costs 3,999 RMB, which is about £449 – a crazy price for a flagship. New features of note include an enhanced 12Mp wide-angle + 12Mp telephoto dual-camera that builds in AI for on-the-fly translations and special background blurring effects. The Sony sensor has enlarged 1.4um pixels, 2x optical zoom and dual-pixel autofocus.

The camera app also brings new features, such as the ability to change the size and shape of bokeh in the background, and even create dynamic bokeh for animated portrait GIFs with lights behind your subject in motion. It also offers AI-powered scene detection, so that the app will use the ideal settings to MI MIX 2S best capture whatever’s in your frame – be it food, landscapes, people, or presentation slides. Oh, and it can translate text and convert currencies on the fly when you point it at menus and brochures.

With that, the Mix 2S has earned a DxOMark photo score of 101, which is the same as the iPhone X. Overall, it earned 97, so it’s just a couple of points below the Google Pixel 2 and Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Plus.
